“Global Cities in Competition for Business Talents” was the main theme of the event, which also featured Digital Business, an exhibition that showcased local innovative products. The exhibition was attended by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and his deputy on economic policy and land-and-property regulations Natalia Sergunina.
Sergei Sobyanin informed the audience that Moscow's innovative infrastructure includes more than a thousand sites, such as engineering centers, business incubators, prototyping centers, and shared resource centers. These facilities host more than 3,500 pieces of modern equipment available to any company.
Natalia Sergunina noted that creating conditions for the development of "new technology entrepreneurs" is one of the city's priorities, because these people have the potential for quick growth and are active in introducing new solutions and technologies.
“Companies from the most important industries set up their manufacturing sites at technology parks. More than 13% of Moscow's electronics enterprises reside there, and nearly one tenth of Moscow's manufacturers of pharmaceuticals. 30 technology parks in Moscow host more than 1,500 companies that manufacture intelligent products. Together these companies have created nearly 41 thousand high-paying jobs,” said Sergunina.
Technology parks in Moscow benefit from tax incentives and other financial preferences: 12.5% (instead of 18%) profit tax, 0.7% of the accrued land tax, a preferential land rental rate of 0.01% of the cadastral value, as well as an exemption from property tax. Total savings on taxes and payments to the budget of Moscow reach 25%.
Speaking at the plenary session, Sergei Sobyanin brought good news to the entrepreneurial community. He said that Moscow is about to implement a whole set of measures to support local businesses. These measures include a reimbursement of up to 50% of expenses pertaining to the technological integration of industrial facilities, and a 15% reimbursement of new equipment costs for residents of technology parks. Obtaining the new status of a regional investment project provides an opportunity to reduce the profit tax rate to 10%.
“The notion that hosting a manufacturing site in Moscow is expensive has been around for a while. Today, Moscow offers good terms. Now is the time to convince the market,” argued Alexander Kalining, the president of Opory Rossii.
“The entrepreneur forum is not merely an exhibition or a conference,” says Roman Boldyrev, the CEO of R&D. “This is a place to obtain new business contacts among clients and suppliers. Moreover, the event offers an excellent opportunity for top-level networking in business circles. For example, last year we met with two of our future customers. One of them is a subsidiary of Rosatom.”
“Contacts acquired during the forum often turn into partnerships, as was the case with our company last year. We found a contractor for the glazing of windows and the erection of metal structures, and we've been very pleased with our collaboration. Of course, there are lots of companies that provide such services on the market, but it's not easy to find people who think in terms of opportunities, not problems. And we've been fortunate to find such a partner,” said Stanislav Gurianov, the CEO of Sila Remonta.
“We would like to than the government of Moscow for the organization of such forums as the one held on the Entrepreneur Day. We've participated in this event before and had an opportunity to find new business partners and customers here. We've made very useful connections in terms of business development and personal growth, and learnt a lot about new trends and innovations. Such information helps you adjust business priorities faster, and it lets you help your clients overcome challenges of the fast changing market more effectively,” said Andrei Ermolaev, the CEO of UXOR, an outsourcing company.
An on-site business support center provided consulting services to entrepreneurs throughout the event.
Attendees of the forum also had an opportunity to learn more about various web portals for entrepreneurs that provide information on competition in particular areas, available locations for manufacturing sites, public procurement tenders, and much more.
The first forum of Moscow entrepreneurs took place in 2015. The event is organized jointly by the Government of Moscow and the public organization Opora Rossii.
