The event features a business program, an urban festival, experimental labs, and the largest Russian development exhibition.
This year's Moscow Urban Forum is expected to be the largest in its seven-year history. Four hundred speakers, including more than 150 international experts, will address various issues pertaining to the development of global megacities. More than 15,000 people have been registered for the forum's business program. Nearly 30,000 visitors are expected to attend the event at VDNkH EXPO on June 6-12.
The forum's venue, Pavilion 75 at VDNkH, will turn into a multifunctional space showcasing Moscow as a throbbing and continuously evolving ecosystem, comfortable and accessible for its guests and residents. Top urban development projects from Moscow as well as from other regions of Russia and its partner countries will be demonstrated at the territory of 14,000 square meters.
“The Age of Agglomerations. The New Global Map” is the tagline of this year's forum. Speakers and guests of the event will discuss agglomeration processes taking place in Tokyo, Seoul, New York, London, Beijing, Shanghai and Buenos Aires. Other essential components of the forum include a business program, an urban festival, experimental labs, and the largest development exhibition in Russia.
On July 6-7, avid Russian and international sociologists and economists together with representatives of government authorities will discuss top urban solutions, city management models and strategic planning. Speakers include Kadir Topbash, the mayor of Istanbul; Waseem Akhtar, the mayor of Karachi (Pakistan); Limin Hee, the director of research at Singapore's Center for Livable Cities; Ken Bernstein, the head of the department of historic resources and citywide policy planning in Los Angeles; and Parag Khanna, a political scientist and a writer.
On June 6-9, MUF Community Fest will be welcoming representatives of professional and enthusiast communities as well as anyone interested in discussing opportunities for efficient citywide community involvement. Guests will be able to take a jogging tour, attend a concert, visit a street art exhibition, and take part in an urban development workshop.
Another project of Moscow Urban Forum bears the name of Experimental Labs. It consists of a series of research workshops – Future Mobility, Future Housing, and The Quality of Urban Environment – where young specialists in urban planning and management will present their ideas to improve the quality of life in Moscow. An international jury will assess these ideas on July 7.
