Moscow is Among Top Five Russian Regions with Largest Share of Small Businesses
23.1 percent of Moscow residents are entrepreneurs.
According to the Moscow Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovative Development, 13 percent of Russia's entire small and medium enterprises are concentrated in the country's capital. There are more than 790 thousand small and medium businesses in Moscow.
The state-financed institution Small Business of Moscow was created specifically to assist entrepreneurs with various issues, e.g. to register a legal entity completely free of charge. The institution offers advice on taxation, HR management, patents and licensing; conducts various workshops and provides an opportunity to undergo specialized training. In 2018, more than 2,000 people (40 percent of them are business owners) took special courses with Small Business of Moscow.
The Moscow Department of Entrepreneurship estimates that close to 30 percent of Moscow's workforce are employed by small and medium enterprises. The city boasts one of the lowest unemployment rates in Russia.
The rate of registration of new individual entrepreneurs in Moscow is twice as high as the average for the whole country.
